Job Summary:

Note: This position is a seasonal part-time summer position with a 40 hour work week (Monday to Thursday).

Reporting to the Roads Superintendent, this position assists with general labour and varying seasonal duties in the Roads Department and Parks and Recreation Department. There may be public contact which would include greeting customers or visitors with professionalism, diplomacy and integrity consistent with the public status and image of the Township. This position provides support to the Roads and Parks and Recreation Department Staff and assists with the Roads and Landscaping maintenance. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Work varying shifts depending on schedule and work required.
2. Minor Road maintenance including cold patching roads where required.
3. Traffic Control including flagging as directed.
4. Other Roads Maintenance, such as painting traffic lines, etc.
5. General Outdoor and Landscaping duties, including but not limited to; grass cutting, gardening, watering, hanging flower baskets, emptying garbage cans, etc.
6. Some duties may require to work alone.
7. Other duties assigned. 

Supervision: N/A


Internal: With other municipal staff for the purpose of obtaining and sharing information to complete assigned duties and tasks. 

External: Periodically there may be contact with the general public to respond to inquiries and provide information where possible; ensuring accessible, prompt, professional and diplomatic service to the customer. 

Key Performance Competencies:
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, deal with distractions and interruptions.
  • Physical ability to complete minor road maintenance (cold-patching) and landscaping (grass-cutting, flower watering) duties as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in varying spring and summer weather.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with others in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated awareness of the importance of accessible, professional customer service in representing the Township; (organizational awareness).
  • Demonstrate ability to follow direction from municipal staff.
  • Knowledge of requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
Working Conditions:

Exposure to outdoor spring and summer weather. Exposure to indoor Roads Garage and North Kawartha Community Centre. Manual labor required in relation to Roads Maintenance and Landscaping. Work as part of a team.

Job Knowledge:

G or G2 Drivers Licence. Experience with lawn Tractors and weed trimmers. Experience driving a pick-up truck. Good organizational and communication skills with the ability to deal with the public in a polite, pleasant and positive manner.
