Community Futures Peterborough #FinancialFriday series is designed to support small businesses and entrepreneurs with information on finance and business acumen. These free workshops and seminars are delivered by community partners and local experts, giving attendees the chance to connect with professional service providers in their area.

Session Description:

In this session, Gwyneth will cover the basics of payroll and how critical proper payroll management is to the success of your business. She will explain the true cost of an employee, the calculation of statutory deductions, and the moving target of Bill 148 in the current political climate. 

You can expect to learn:

  • Hiring your first employee; what information must be collected
  • How to calculate payroll and deductions
  • The cost of late remittances to CRA
  • How different industries are affected by vacation pay, statutory holidays, overtime, etc.
  • Bill 148 today and possible changes
  • Upcoming changes to CPP

Presenter: Gwyneth James, Cody & James CPAs

Gwyneth is a partner at Cody & James Chartered Professional Accountants in the north-end of Peterborough. She moved into public practice 10 years ago after a successful career in the private sector, including several years as Controller at Nexicom. Gwyneth, her business partner and their nine employees provide a full suite of accounting services with a personal touch to local businesses and individuals. Recently, Cody & James CPAs joined Porter Hétu International, a Canadian-based organization of accounting firms, which will allow them to offer assurance engagements (reviews and audits) to business clients.
